What happens if you are on the wrong track?

Welcome to today's issue of The Daily Dose of Motivational Medicine. The e-zine of Motivateme: Breaking the Procrastination Habit. http://www.motivateme.info. Have you signed up for your daily dose yet?
----------------------------------------------------------
What happens if you find out you are on the wrong track? You've spent a considerable amount of time and energy and you find yourself either not going anywhere or worse still going backwards? and what happens if you've worked so hard for something, only to find out it wasn't what you hoped for when you got there. Do you continue to work hard at whatever it is, even though you know it's not what you want? Or do you keep on hitting the same brick wall ending tired and frustrated?

How many times do you have to reach a certain point in your life before you decide that enough really is ENOUGH?

The first thing you need to do is to decide whether you are on the wrong track or whether you are taking a side road to your destination. If you find out you are taking a side road, you can make a few minor adjustments and you can find yourself running back up to the main road in no time. For instance, you may think you are doing everything correctly but a quick look at what you are actually doing (your time log is a great source of information) will tell you the truth - assuming you are filling it in of course. So if you are not losing weight and you think you are following the diet and exercise plan properly a quick scan of the food that you have eaten over the last couple of days/weeks will tell you whether you are eating too much for your exercise load. When losing weight it is important to remember that weight constitutes everything your body is composed of. Therefore if you want to lose body fat and become smaller then you need to ramp up the cardio component. The fat stored in your body is our bodies energy supply....so use it to lose it.

Or what about that writing project that you should have done by now, how much time have you actually spent on it? Again your time log will tell you. Fill it in and you will find yourself being able to get a whole lot more done on a daily basis. If you haven't tried it yet, you will be amazed at how much time you can waste each day....as one person said "going to the loo" !!

So a wrong track may not be a wrong track after all, minor adjustments are all you need. But what about those things you no longer enjoy, or you no longer want? Well - you need to go back to your goal list and more importantly the reasons why you said you wanted something. It may be that the holiday to the Bahamas really wasn't what you wanted, you actually need a new car and a caravan so that you can travel all weekend....without having to pay for hotel accommodation....you tell me, after all it is your goal list.

If you find yourself delaying the start of saving for the holiday or not working on the project - you need to take some time and to re-assess your goal list and your reasons. MOTIVE (what are your reasons) + ACTION (what steps are you willing to take to reach it)? Note the use of the word "willing" not everyone is willing to give up going out every night so they can save up the money to buy a new car and a caravan.

What are you willing to do to reach your goals? But before you rob a bank, you may also like to check your personal value system first. If your desires go against your value system then you will have conflict and your value system will win every time.

What do we mean by value system? Well say you applied for and got a job. On paper it sounded perfect, the people were great - but when you got there, it turned out to be all smoke and mirrors - ie., their value system wasn't in keeping with yours, do you admit that you've made a mistake and move on, or do you keep plugging away - hoping their value system will catch up to yours? The choice as always is yours and yours alone to make. But one thing I will say at this point - don't ever get to the end of your life with regrets. So if you feel that you have made a mistake, then admit it and move onwards and sideways.

Remember the wrong track may only be a minor detour after all.
