Do you know what you want - exactly?

Welcome to today's issue of The Daily Dose of Motivational Medicine. The e-zine of Motivateme: Breaking the Procrastination Habit. http://www.motivateme.info. Have you signed up for your daily dose yet?
----------------------------------------------------------
EXACTLY

Being exact takes away the doubt away from what you want. How exact are you in your goal setting and the actions that you take in order to reach them. Think about it, if your words don't reflect exactly what you think you want - how on earth are you actually going to reach your target?

Do me a favour and get out your goal list - what does it look like? Is it full of specifics?

I want to visit Egypt in the next 2 years. I am going to save x amount of dollars each week in order to reach the monetary goal. i am going to save up my holiday this year so that I can take 6 weeks off next year.

Or is it full of wishy washy vague statements?

"I want to travel to lots of places" - you do? Where? When? How long for? How are you going to afford it? Who are you going with? Do you have enough annual leave or do you need to factor in leave without pay? Will you rent out your place or will you get someone to house sit? What about the pets? What about the kids? Are the kids at school? What are you going to do about getting them ahead in their school work so you can do this?

"I want more money" - 5c is more. How much do you want? How are you going to get the additional money? What do you want the additional money for?

"I want more money to be comfortable" - compared to whom?
"I want to be happier" - than what? Than who? What will make you happy? What difference will having an inane grin on your face constantly do to your life?

"I want to win the lottery" - so does everyone else!!! - what will you do with it? If you don't have plans for it, well you'll soon end up back where you started because other people will have plans for it.  As a matter of interest - you are statistically more likely to have an accident on the way to get your lottery ticket than you are likely to actually win it.

Let me put it this way - be specific, but make the goals that you have for yourself realistic. Tomorrow we'll look at what makes a realistic goal. But let me put it this way - Winning a million dollars is not a realistic goal !!. One thing I will say is that if you are basing your future financial planning on some external happening over which you have absolutely no control - then chances are better than good you will not be "rich".

So today - well it is Saturday I need you to get out your goal list and see if your goals are specific or vague. And then you need to work out how you can change those vague desires into something that you can and will achieve.
