Do you feel guilty?

Do you feel guilty when you take a break from working on your dreams, projects and goals?
I must admit that I do find it hard to switch off "the day job" and turn on the creative side that says, hey now I have time to write my book. And when you get home at night - do you look at the dishes in the sink, or the clothes in the ironing basket, and think to yourself that you will get started on your project just as soon as you've done....
So how can you turn off one side of the thinking brain and tune into the alternative side?
1. Your thoughts create your reality. If you feel guilty about taking time out to work on your dreams, goals and projects you will struggle to achieve anything. You will find your thoughts straying towards those other things that you think you need to do. So
2. Have a set time to do - housework, dishes etc. And do the jobs....Do the jobs, clear the decks and the mind and then get on with your projects.
3. Planning is important. If you take time off work to work on your projects etc, then make sure you do exactly that. If you need to take a day off to do jobs then organise for two days off, don't try and cram it all into one day otherwise you will end up doing everything half-hearted.
4. When you get home after work, have a shower, get changed. Rid your body of the grime of the day, and your mind of the rubbish that's gone on - imagine it washing down the drain...some people find this technique useful. I certainly find it useful to change my state of mind.
5. Exercise. A brisk 20 minute walk can do wonders to switch the brain from work mode to creative mode. Don't try and think of anything - and don't try and work out tomorrows to do list....hint - that should be the last thing you do before you leave the office. So that when you arrive the next day, it is there waiting for you. That way, you don't have to remember anything - because it's all written down. If you are at home, working on your goals etc - have a note book sitting by you. If you do think of somethiing that you think you need to do, simply write it down, and then forget about it.
6. And if none of that works, start anyway. When all else fails - perserverance is one of the best keys to breaking the procrastination habit.
