----------------------------------------------------------
Good morning

A comment from one of the readers of the daily dose of motivational medicine yesterday has prompted me to send a follow up to yesterday's message.

Yesterday if you remember I asked you to get out your goal list and to assign a do or die rating to them. 7-10 = will achieve no matter what; 0-2 = why bother?

Well his comment threw me a little. He had his dream, he carries a picture of it around with him in his wallet...great start I thought to myself. This person knows what he wants, and you know what he will do it - I'd say his do or die rating was about an 8. Why an 8? Why not a perfect 10 I can hear you say?

Well in this readers particular case, his work is taking him away from from his home for quite long periods of time, and he is unable to devote the time he needs to creating this particular goal item. Yes the money might be good (and I can only assume this as I don't ask) - so money isn't the thing that is stopping him.

So what is?

Well I call it the BUT factor. No, not as in - I can't be bothered to get off my BUTT to do what it takes, but the BUT factor. The negative word that gets in the way of most of our hopes, dreams and aspirations. Remove the BUT factor from your goal list and you will immediately raise the do or die rating by a couple of notches.

I will achieve my goal of being mortgage free in 5 years.
I will get a better paid job
I will move house to one that is closer to....

These kinds of statements means there is no doubt in your mind....

You know that you will achieve them, yes it may take a little bit of negotiation and planning on your part to achieve them, but and here's the thing. You really have to want to - want to change your beliefs, behaviours and thought processes and you need to believe that you can do it....Remove the word BUT from your vocabulary and you will achieve far more than you ever dreamed possible.

Never assume that the person(s) you think is/are going to hold you back will do so...

I'd like to move house but the kids like their school, and I can't expect them to make new friends it's not fair...(Excuse me - fair for who? Fair on the kids that you are sad and miserable all the time...)
I'd like to travel - but the bank manager will say no, the hubby won't be able to get extended leave from work (have you asked him?, what about the kids schooling? (what about it? Go talk to the teachers, department of education? They will learn far more in the real world than in the classroom - project management, time management, written and verbal communication, team work - the list is endless).

The only thing really holding you back is what is going on in your mind. Stop having conversations with yourself, don't get down and depressed because you think you know the answer before you start....get the people involved. Start to visit the area(s) where you'd like to move to, see if you can't get a day in the school your kids will be attending, get some reference points for the kids - they're always on MSN these days so get a few names and addresses - let them communicate with their new friends. Get them started on the projects you want to start, plan the holidays - get the books, guides, talk to a financial advisor, see where you can start to make a difference to your goals...and get off your BUTT and get rid of the BUT from your thought processes.
