-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An important aspect about goal setting and goal achieving is this. Everyone can set goals - not everyone can achieve them.

The reasons why are numerous:

Every day we achieve many great things....they're the easy "goals" - they don't require much in the way of effort.
- Painting the house - over a couple of weekends and the job is done;
- Sorting out the garden - well we now have an extra hour of daylight we can use to create a new space to enjoy:
- Losing 5 kilos is easy (not necessarily in a single day, but a couple of weeks of sensible eating, and a bit of exercise and you can lose 5 kilos - easy). Losing 55 kilos on the other hand takes a lot of effort, long term planning, time, patience, committment, perseverance and a real desire to do it.

Don't have a spare 55 kilos? Well a woman at the gym I go to has lost 50 kilos over a 45 week period. It wasn't a quick fix, it took time - 45 weeks that's 7 weeks short of a year!!, and it took effort...I've seen the sweat and I've seen the result. It's amazing.

The problem is most people quit before they reach the 5 kilo mark.

And that's the main problem with goal setting or should I say goal achieving...most people don't have the strategies in place, they're not willing to spend time and effort to achieve their goal. You see the biggest thing with achieving goals is not the end result - that's secondary, the really important thing if you think about it is this:

What kind of person are you going to become as you work on and achieve those goals?

So when you are thinking about your goals and those things you say you want to achieve, then it is important to decide upfront what kind of person you are willing to become in order to achieve them?

On most people's goal list is the one about money. How much more money do you want? Remember "more money" can be as little as 5c, when working out how much extra you want, you need to remember the key - why? Why do you want "more money"? Do you use the money you currently have properly? By properly I mean - do you pay your bills? Do you have loans and debts? Do you want more money to get rid of those debts or are you planning on spending the additional money on "stuff"?

So now you've worked out how much, and you should have some serious reasons why you want it. And if you've had a good look at your budget, and made any changes that can mean a difference at the end of next week, next month or next year. Remember that cup of coffee you buy on a daily basis $3 x 7 days x 52 weeks = $1,092. Now I am not saying that you don't need coffee, but can you afford a thousand dollar a year habit spent in $3 increments?

So the question is - if you've changed your household budget as much as you can, you're not able to negotiate a payrise, how are you going to get more money. What are you willing to do in order to get it?

Do you want a million dollars but aren't willing to trade houses, shares or blood, sweat and tears in return....then are you willing to become someone who "robs" other people, are you the kind of person who wants it all and wants it now without putting in any effort? I would hope not. But as with all things, the choice as they say is yours.

Some goals we can achieve easily, others take time and effort. What kind of effort are you putting in today? Remember we now have just 6.5 days before the Christmas break, so stop reading this email and start work.

Best regards to you all, and thank you to those people who have been kind enough to give me feedback. It is wonderful to know the annoying reminders are working. Remember if you don't mind other people hearing about your successes you can post comments to the web.
