Good Morning, just a quick note today to ask you to remember the importance of forward planning.

We are about to come up to the worst time for diets and exercise regimes of the entire year, so it is worth taking a moment to decide whether or not you are going to indulge and not feel guilty, or plan your days meals several days in advance so over the course of a couple of weeks you haven't blown your diet and weight loss completely.

OK, I know that some of you don't need to go on a diet, are not on a diet and have no intention of going on a diet....but given that the first couple of items on everyone's New Years Resolutions List is lose weight and get fit....I thought I would cover it today.

So what do you do?

The answer is - plan, plan, plan. I know - boring.

Whilst this sounds like we are taking away any chance of spontenaiety out of the forthcoming events, planning now can save a whole artery of problems later on.

For example - make sure you have lots of fresh fruit and veggies in the house. Chop up a tub of salad and stick it in the fridge, so if you do feel hungry you don't snack on half a pound of cheese because it's easy.

Freeze most of the naughty stuff and only get out what you are planning on eating that morning. Or even better leave it in the freezer and you won't be able to eat it on the spur of the moment. I mean do you really need 3 dozen mincepies all going off on the pantry shelf at the same time? Or would it be better to spread the load a little. BTW - dried fruit is a great sweetener - it takes time to chew, satisfies the cravings, fills your stomach and it helps with the removal of excess food consumption a little while later !!!!

Have plenty of mineral water on hand to offset the alcohol consumption. Buy sparkling and pretend it's weak champers !! And have a laugh at everyone else getting drunk. It's also a good time to be behind the camera - great for bribes in the new year.

Christmas is a time for catching up with family and friends, and there is usually food involved. So if you don't want to indulge too much, nor do you want to feel guilty about doing so, then take some healthy options with you. A bowl of nuts, seeds and dried fruits to snack on instead of potato chips, fresh fruit for dessert, that bowl of salad that's wilting in the fridge !! Or if you can't help yourself, then instead of finding the biggest plate, ask for a side plate instead. Take small portions of things, savour the taste and allow time for the food you've just eaten to hit the satisfy button in your brain. Usually by the time this occurs we've eaten so much we're groaning at the seams.

And if you are serious about getting fit and healthy in the New Year, then why not start now. Book your assessment at the gym and beat the post Christmas rush.
