Are you a technique collector?

Good Morning I hope this finds you well and enjoying the start of your Saturday morning.

Have you noticed that when you know what you want you move with purpose towards your desired target. You move effortlessly from task to task, obstacles and problems don't get in the way. You know what you want and you know how you are going to get there. Going from "A" to "B" is easy.

But what happens when "B" is off somewhere in the distance, hazy, blurred a little around the edges. YOu think you know what you want, but you're not sure, and so you don't keep your eyes fixed on the target long enough to make sure.

So what happens?

Your mind wanders off on minor tasks and when some thing new and exciting appears you're off exploring.

There are lots of people who I call "Technique collectors". I used to be one myself. Hoping for that magic bullet that meant I didn't have to spend hours in the gym or pounding the streets in the vain hope I could get fit and healthy without getting hot and sweaty.

Do you have every diet, health and fitness book under the sun? Have you tried Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins? What happens? You read the information, you try it for a little while, but then....you move on to the next shiny bauble.

If that sounds like you, then you are a sporadic do'er.

The other kinds of people are what I call a diligent do'er. The thing is a diligent do'er will achieve far more than the sporadic do'er every time. The sporadic do'er may seem to be making huge gains in whatever they are doing, but they quickly lose ground to those people taking sure, steady steps towards their goals and dreams. A diligent do'er will not cheat on the portion sizes, or types of food they supposed to be consuming and pretend they're eating properly. Nor witll the diligent do'er conveniently forget to go to the gym and will exercise more than their jaws when they do get there. A diligent do'er knows what he needs to do and will do it with due diligence.

A sporadic do'er is just like everyone else. They seem to know ALL the theory, but can't be bothered to put it into practice, let alone the time and the effort to get the results they say they want.

So what happens? Well as you can imagine - sporadic means you do something for a little while, then stop when it gets too hard or you're not getting the results you want. You stop for a while convinced that you'll get going again soon, and then a new technique comes along and you're off.

The self-help industry is just the same as the diet and the health industry. They are worth millions of dollars each year. And they are literally banking on the sporadic do'er to keep them in business. If they are totally honest, they are banking on the fact that you wont succeed, because if you did, if we all did, then they would be out of a job.The diligent do'er scares them. And they are hoping that no-one tells the sporadic do'er the truth because money and jobs are at stake.

Well I am hoping to debunk the myth once and for all. Perserverance and patience are the two things you need to truly succeed in life. Stop being a technique collector and start practising what you read.
