Defining success:
Being successful isn't just about having money in the bank - being a success may mean that you've brought up your kids to say no to drugs, they're fit, healthy and respect other people's property.
Having a long, healthy and productive life - given the amount of rubbish we are prone to pour into our bodies on a daily basis, which they have to process - living a long and healthy life - personally that's what I would term a success.
Having enough money to pay your bills on time, and live your life free of debt, having friends who enjoy your company, throwing a dinner party and the guests turn up - now they're the kinds of success I would have any day.
Being able to talk to your spouse - have them understand and be by your side when the proverbial hits the fan - that's a success.
  • successful people turn up to work, on time, in a good mood and enjoy the job that you are paid to do:
  • being a success means that you accept that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Being a success means you have the ability to accept that, and move on. Successful people don't see "problems" as stopping points, they re-assess the strategies that worked and what didn't and make changes accordingly
  • They look towards the future, they plan, and they take the steps they need to achieve those aims
  • They are mindful of the past, because they know that the decisions made yesterday are impacting on what they can and do achieve today
  • They know they can't do it alone, so they have a good support group and mentoring group to challenge their thinking
  • They are entrepreneurs - they see opportunities where most people don't
  • They don't get caught up with "small stuff" - they have networks of people who can help them to achieve their goals
  • They can compartmentalise successfully. They know that when they go to work, that's what they do - they don't confuse socialising with work time.
  • Having huge amounts of money in the bank - may mean you are a "success" - but at what cost? Money in the bank - may mean that you are good in business, but you may have gotten there through dodgy deals, spending hours at work when you could have done other things, using money as a lever to get people to do things that otherwise they wouldn't have done...is that a success?
How would you define success?
