Break bad habits by creating new "good" habits
Habits, we all have them. Some of them are good to have, like remembering to clean your teeth and how to drive a car. Can you imagine how difficult our lives would be if didn't have the ability to learn new things and then not have to think about them too hard once the pattern had been imprinted into our brain waves or thought processes?
And bad habits are especially bad because most of the time we don't realise what we are doing. Do you sit and watch the television when you are eating your dinner at night? Do you consciously make the choice to sit and stare at the box whilst consuming vast quantities of food? Have you noticed that you eat a lot more if you are not actually watching what you are eating? Your mind is consumed with what is on the television rather than what is on the plate, so the satiety feelings we used to get (just before the bloated feeling) are drowned out by outside events.
In order to break a habit - first you have to know that you have one. Then you have to ask yourself, are you willing to let the habit (whatever it is) into your life. If you are not willing to have the habit dictate to you, then what do you do? Do you avoid the situations that led you to creating the habit in the first place, or do you do other things so that you don't have time to think about the bad habit - namely it is very hard to eat and clean at the same time.
So take a few days and consciously watch what you do, make a note of the times that you do it, keep a log book if you have to. You will be pleasantly if somewhat embarrased by your daily activities. Because it is those daily activities that are taking you towards your goal(s) or away from them. So take time to do an inventory of yourself and your actions, once you know what you are doing it is a lot easier to choose what you do next.
