Waking up depressed
Do you ever wake up depressed? I'm not talking about those days when we've hardly been to sleep because we've been worrying about something or other. No I'm talking about those ordinary days when the alarm goes off and it's time to hit the shower before going to work.
I'm sure you will be unable to point to any particular day where that actually happened. You opened your eyes, stretched a little before pushing back the covers and sliding out of the warm cocoon. You showered, dressed and got ready - then you turned on the television, deciding to watch the news while you ate your breakfast. Then what happened - the even feeling that you had when you woke up was replaced by a feeling of anxiety, all of a sudden you remember that you have to get petrol on the way to work, and have you seen the cost. The wars and skirmishes happening in the middle east are pushing up the price of fuel and everywhere you look people are killing each other. Anxiety starts to eat away at the feeling of calm that you had, and as you drive into work, the radio announcers advise there is a bad weather alert, accidents are likely. You start to worry - about everything.
Is it any wonder that you can hardly get motivated when you get into work. Worry, anxiety and depression are your companions, sitting beside you as you struggle to get through the day.
If you want to get more from your day, don't listen to the television or the radio news, and don't read the newspapers. Most things are sensationalised because bad news sells. If there is anything really important someone will eventually tell you.
