Personal development lasts a lifetime
It takes time to design a new life, but it takes a whole life time to live it.
Therefore it stands to reason that as you grow and change, your needs grow and change with it. So it also stands to reason that as you grow and change, your personal development needs will also change.
If you do the same things this year as you did last year, chances are you are going to end up in exactly the same situation in 12 months time. So if you continue to eat in the same way, exercise to the same level, read the same kind of books, work in the same job doing the same kind of things - what is going to be different? Not much - except you will be a year older.
Now I am not advocating that you make massive changes today in the hope that come the end of the year you will have made every change that you need to. On the contrary - too many changes all at once will probably overwhelm you and you will retreat into your old habits faster than you can say new years resolutions.
So take the time to plan where you want to be at the end of this week, end of the month and end of the year. Once you have those kind of deadlines mapped out - then you can determine what you need to do in order to get there. But and here is the final point to ask yourself - is that realistic?
You see - you may decide to set yourself a task of saving $400 by the end of the year - now if you had started at the beginning of the year - you could have saved $1.10 a day and you could have reached your target quite easily and without too much stress. Now with only 4 months to go to the end of the year - can you afford the $27 a week you will need to put aside. If you have never had the discipline of putting $27 aside a week - chances are your budget won't stretch to accommodate the additional expenditure and at the first sign of bills will wither and die.
So make sure that the steps you take today (and every day) are realistic. And then make sure that you apply them conistently and persistently - and you will reach your new goals. And that is the lesson with all personal development - treat each day as an opportunity to do better than you did yesterday and by the end of the year you will have achieved great things.
