Where do you go for inspiration?

Where do you go for inspiration?

Have you ever wandered aimlessly around looking for something, anything that will spark the next creative thought? Of course you have, this is a site dedicated to procrastination after all. The question is where do you go? Do you need different types of inspiration depending on your state of mind, or the projects you are trying to avoid? Chances are you said yes to that one too. We all have people we turn to when we need answers to certain questions, after all, why re-invent the wheel if someone has been there and done that already.

But what about those other times. This isn't really about inspiration about "work" but rather what do you do when you are feeling "down" and in need of something to soothe your soul. Where do you go? What do you do? Who do you speak to, to recharge your central core, your "soul" your - essence. Everyone has a different word for it, and you know the place inside you that sometimes insists on a good cup of coffee in front of a log fire. Or needs a hug that only your mum or your best friend can give you. What is it for you? What is it that you do that allows you to take a deep breath that says " I can do this, I can succeed, I can keep going even though a minute ago I felt like giving up"?

I'll give you a few a my favourite things - to coin a very old song:

Hot chocolate and marshmallows
A blazing log fire
Warm towels
A hot shower
Massage, hugs and kisses
Smiles from a complete stranger
An endorphin rush after doing exercise I really didn't want to do
A long drive along the ocean front
Fish and chips with lots of vinegar
A chat with my mum
A chat with a long lost friend
Receiving unexpected letters in the mail, knowing that someone has taken the time to write to me in this electronic age
Music, Books and Writing
Candlelight
The smell of oranges
Writing by candlelight
The smell of incense
Wrapping myself in my long black velvet cloak
Lying on a rug under the stars - real wide screen, high definition sound and vision
Meditation
Leaning against a tree absorbing its strength, listening to the sounds of the birds calling
The love that only a pet can give you
A baby's smile
Poetry
The smell of newly mown grass
The feeling of satisfaction after a very physical job that has been completed....

When you are feeling less than crash hot it is so easy to focus on the things that haven't worked for you today. So next time that happens to you - remember this one thing, whatever happens - you will handle it. Then take a few moments to reflect on a few of your favourite things. Things that make you smile, things that say - you know what I can do this...and then go do it.

So if you haven't yet created a celebration book now is the time to get out a piece of paper and a nice writing pen and start writing down all those things that inspire you. Keep it with you, so when you need a source of inspiration you can read it, and add to it when you think of new items that inspire you. In today's world of negativity it is the best book you will ever read, not only because you wrote it, but because each "reading" will bring a memory to the forefront of your mind and if you are focussing on the positive, there is little room for the negative to play in.

I believe that you can be whatever and whoever you want to be. We are only limited by our minds and our creative ability. So it is time to get creative.
