Inspiration: To your success
In following on from the list you should have created which lists some of your favourite things. There is another source of inpsiration that you can turn to when you are feeling a little down on yourself and your progress to date. There is? Well, where can I find it? Actually you already have it, you've just forgotten it's there.
But where is it, what room is it in? Actually it's not a room in your house or a specific spot in your garden, although both may be places of inspiration to you. No, the place I am talking about is your mind.
By now you should have a note book filled with things that inspire you and make you smile. But we are nw going to add to that book with some other bits and pieces we like to call "success". We've already spoken about creating a celebration book - you know those little things on a daily basis that you deem to have been a "success". For example, not eating chocolate, only having one glass of wine with dinner, completing a project that you've been putting off for a while, or whatever else you can think of that you can count as something to "celebrate" each day. Remember, focussing on the good things will bring more good to you, focussing on the negative will attract more of the same - like iron filings to a magnet. So be careful of what you think about, because you might just get it.
No, today we are going to talk about the "big wins" that you have had over the years. This one will take some thinking about, but it is very important if you are struggling with motivation and feelings of worthlessness at your inability to complete anything. Because it is these "big wins" that can make your current problem look insiginificant compared to those things you have already succeeded at doing.
Now before you start going on at me because you can't remember the last time you did manage to complete ANYTHING, let alone something BIG. I want you to get out a nice big piece of paper and some coloured pens. Lets get a little creative.
So starting when you were a baby I would like you to draw a timeline in 5 year blocks
down your page it should look something like this
0-5
6-10
11-15
16-20
Now leave a couple of lines between each of the time lines and start filling in the things you completed during those years.....as you start this process you may end up re-writing your list several times as you think of new successes, but as we know by know, when we focus on the good ....
So to give you a head start
0-5 = learned to sit up, crawl, pull myself onto my feet, climb stairs by myself without falling down, learned to talk, to run, to pull the tail of the dog, to feed myself without having to change my clothes after every meal, to go to the toilet on my own, went to pre-school and learned how to play and interact with other kids, gained a whole set of teeth (makes life a lot easier to eat stuff), went to junior school - and starting learning all sorts of amazing stuff.
6-10 = learned to read, spell, do maths, care for animals, swing on the monkey bars,
16-20
Gained my queens guide
Moved out of the family home into my own place
Got a weekend job
Got a full time job
Now most people wouldn't consider these early skills a "success" but if you think about it, without these skills and abilities you wouldn't be the person you are today.
Remember, each success you have creates the foundation on which the next success is based.
So, no matter where you are in life, you have already had hundreds of successes and big wins you can lay claim to. So - what are you waiting for, get writing and I'll speak to you again tomorrow.
