There's only one shot at this thing called life
An Australian Icon - known around the world as the crocodile hunter - died in an accident today whilst filming stingrays. He apparently received a shock to his heart. He was 44 years old.
Why am I telling you this? Well if you have ever doubted yourself, and thought you had all the tomorrows left in the world to do what you needed to do, then today is a wake up call. Because who knows how many more tomorrows we have left?
Over the past few days I have spoken about how we waste time - killing time is perhaps a more appropriate term if you think about it, because that moment has gone, it can never be recaptured, it is "dead" time to us. Just like the spilt milk, it has gone down the drain.
So what have you not done today that you should have done?
What did you not do yesterday?
What could you do better today than you did yesterday? (I know what I should have done !!)
What plans have you made for this week?
Are your plans in place for the next month?
We are just 3 months away from the end of 2006. Did you set goals at the beginning of the year? Are you any closer to fulfilling any of them? Or are they still on the dream drawing board?
And what of 2007?
The start of the new year is the traditional time for setting new goals and challenges for the next 12 months of your journey? Will you be travelling new and exciting routes or will you be going back over the same ground again?
Our lives are made up of millions of minute decisions - each decision impacts on the next one that you make. Do you take the left hand fork in the road, or do you take the right? Do you go to the gym or do you veg out in front of the television? Do you pick up the telephone and reconnect with someone or do you put it off again? Do you allow someone elses insecurities to impact on your life, or do you say - nope, I'm not prepared to do that anymore, I'm going to live the life I've always wanted to live.
The choice as they say is yours. So today - please do me a favour - do something, anything that is totally different from your normal routine. And tomorrow do something else. Break through the habits and the things that you have procrastinated over for so long - because we really do only have one shot at this thing called life.
