Hello it's me again....did you think I'd forgotten you?
Well you will be pleased to know that I haven't....so what do I mean by half way point....well as we "speak" we are mid way through the first month of the calendar year. Gone quickly hasn't it?!
So what have you been doing with yourselves?
If you can't answer that question easily then I would suggest you need a better "accounting" system. If you get to the end of the day and have no idea about how much you've done, and still have to do, or worse still get to the end of the month and have no idea how much you have accomplished then how on earth are you going to be able to:
a) celebrate when you reach your milestones (assuming you have milestones in place) or your goals.
b) know when you've actually reached your goal
c) know when to pick up the pace so that you don't start to do less today than you did yesterday....otherwise you won't reach your goals.
Whilst a time log is a good start (copy available for download from the web) a decent accounting system that says - I needed to do this and this and this by the end of the day/week and I have only managed to this...but I did do a lot of other stuff - honest... is vital.
It doesn't matter whether you use a whiteboard or a scrappy piece of paper to keep track of your progress, but you do need to do it.
Imagine that you were paid by the hour and had to account for your time....would your accounting system allow you to bill the correct amount of money for the work that you have done, or would you end up charging your "clients" less than you should because you don't have the proof you need (either in deliverables or logged time) to do so. If you consistently over work and under charge, you are going to go bankrupt pretty quickly. Or worse still - under work and over charge, and be morally bankrupt...
The choice as they say is yours.
