Good Morning, today is the end of the first working week of the calendar year which means that there are only 51 more weeks to go before the end of the year, or 11 months and 3 weeks. My question for you today is a simple one - so what have you achieved so far this year?
And before you whinge and say give me a break - it's only been a week, you can't expect me to have completed great things in a week. Why can't I? I have - so why can't i expect you to have done the same?
OK, I can see the eyes rolling from here, I am the kind of person you really love to hate aren't I? You think that I can set any goal and achieve it, or I am lying and am just saying stuff to get you motivated. Well the answer to both is no. I don't deal in double standards - I don't ask you to do anything that I am not willing to do or try myself, and I have set many goals and have failed to reach quite a few of them too. I am a work in progress just like you are....but just to prove a point I'll attach a couple of photos - I was going to load them onto the website, but the darn things won't load - something wrong with their server today....
Remember me telling you that if you lead by example you'll have motivated followers/helpers. Well last week when my teenage children said they were bored, I said - good you can get your scruffy clothes on - we're going to do some gardening....they thought it was the usual weed pulling exercise we engage in now and again....but when they realised they would be mixing concrete and laying bricks, well I couldn't work fast enough to keep up with them.
So why am I telling you this? Well the usual reasons, I had two weeks off work. I could have spent the time sitting around outside in what passes for my garden. I have a huge stack of books that i want to read, letters that i need to write, a book that i am working on, or i could have gone shopping (then again - no I couldn't I don't really like shopping!!). But I decided that it was time to cross one of the major things of the goal list....the patio. OK I was a little naieve when it came to planning and execution. In fact I could have given up on day one when I ripped off the skin on one of my fingers, but I didn't....we changed the plan, in fact we changed the planning and execution a few times. But the end results...well you can see for yourself. We're going plant shopping later on this morning to do the finishing touches.
The point is - you can do great things...if you want to.
You don't have to be the same person you were last week or last year, you have the infinite power to change everything about you and your circumstances - if you want to
And if you don't want to - then it can't be that bad, now can it.
So the end of the first working week, what amazing things did you manage to do this week or are you still coming to terms with the fact that Christmas and New Year has just gone, and there are Hot Cross Buns in the supermarket already!?
