Selling ourselves short
Sales, no matter what job you do, or for whom, you are in the sales business. You may be selling a widget or an idea, but you are still selling something to someone else.
In fact, every phone call you answer and every phone call you make is an opportunity to persuade the person on the other end to do some kind of business with you. As the great sales leaders know, people will do business with those people they like and trust, and will refer people they know to them. Thanks Bob for that timely reminder (http://www.burg.com).
It was interesting, I ran a training course this morning, 75% of the people stated they came to the course because of the reputation of the company that I work for (during my daylight hours), and one person specifically stated they came because of a monthly newsletter that I issue - she said that if the newsletter was good, then the course was going to be even more so, because she "knew" and "trusted" my work.
Never underestimate the power of the words that you use, and the way that you use them. If you are feeling down, depressed, sad, happy, joyous, at peace with yourself and skills that you have, will show in the tone of your voice and the words that you choose to use.
So, given your current state of mind - would people want to "buy" whatever it is you are trying to sell? Or would they cross the street in a bid to get away from you?

Thanks for the nice mention.
By the way, one of your recent issues is what re-motivated me to begin working out again and going back to a healthy eating lifestyle so . . . thanks!!
Bob
Credit where it's due, I always look forward to reading your e-zines. But I am glad the words have struck a chord, and it's good to know that you are re-motivated with regards to health and exercise. I still ache after starting my new thai boxing regime !! Just don't ask me to run.
Have a great day
