Your brain cannot tell real from imagined
Do you gravitate towards the same kind of reading material? Take a quick look at your own book shelves - what do they contain? How many of them have you read? How many have you re-read and which ones are they?
I used to have a huge fiction collection. I invested hours each day and a considerable amount of money on my favourite pastime. Added up it probably accounts for months if not years out of my life. And what have I gotten out of my investment? Pleasure - yes. A hole in my bank account - most certainly. Any new skill? Language learned? New ability - Nope, nada, zip, zilch.
Did I tell you I gave away 90% of my fiction collection? Well I did. I decided that there wasn't enough time left to read the "good stuff" especially if I was still reading "fiction".
Did you know your brain cannot tell real events from imagined ones? Well it can't. So consider this, if you fill your mind with a wide variety of material you will have more things to discuss, more things to consider, more areas to explore, more ways to fulfil your own life. And if money is tight, treat your local public library like your own personal university, you don't need a piece of paper to be truly educated. And the beauty of a library is of course - if you don't like it, you can take it back. Try doing that at a book shop!! So why not re-visit your book shelves - give away those books that no longer serve you. Start clearing out your mind and your book shelves and make way for the new you.
