Cruisin or movin?
Cruising is another name for habitual behaviour. We slip into patterns without realising we have done so. Every day we have a chance to do great things, different things. Yet I see so many people doing the same things in the same way, and sometimes the person who should know better is doing it too.
Having gotten over my recent bout of tonsillitis - thankfully the blood work came back negative, I had the opportunity to get back into my fitness routine. Oh boy was I stiff. But I completed the approx 15k walk in around 2 hours. I then (along with a couple of friends) walked for another 2 hours the following day through the John Forrest National Park - down the railroad track, through a tunnel that was completed in 1895....I'll upload some photos for you - go to the gallery to check them out.
Of course, the cliche's flowed, there really was light at the end of the tunnel, which was a good thing because it was extremely dark and wet in places. And for a claustrophobe, one of the scariest things I have had to do in a long time. But it did give me an opportunity to marvel at the workmanship of the curved brick tunnel, and given the age of the structure, the lack of modern drilling equipment, just how hard it would have been for these people to have completed the job. And if truth be known, many didn't finish the job, the job finished them.
In the early part of the 21st Century we have so much. Every gadget known to man, woman or child to help us achieve whatever it is we decide we want to do. Which makes me wonder if that is part of the problem. We have many competing projects vying for our attention that we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel.
So - and this is where the cliche's come thick and fast folks....it's time to get tunnel vision and decide what it is you are going to focus your attention on during the last few weeks of the year 2007. It is time to clear the decks of the old projects because come January 2008 I would like to see a plan for the next 12 months laid out.
What are you going to achieve in the next 52 weeks
What can you achieve in month 1?
Where do you want to be at the end of 26 weeks? That's the end of June if your maths isn't up to speed.
You see if you decide that you have 52 weeks to lose 52lbs - but you don't need to start on day 1, you will - and I can almost guarantee it, will reach month 9 with about 48lbs still to go.
And it is the same with everything.
You need to decide what you want, you need to work out how long it is going to take you to get there, and then you need to follow through with the plan, day after day. And there you thought I was going to say - here take these two pills and call me in the morning...sorry, can't do that.
So, take time to complete your 2007 to do list, then spend some time during the run up to christmas to decide what you want the new year to bring. Because if you don't, then you will be in exactly the same place this time next year, just older.
