Work life balance
Work / Life balance is relatively simple.
When you are supposed to be working - work.
When you are supposed to be resting - then stop working, turn off your mind and rest (I know easier said than done)
When it is time to play - make sure you do so.
Don't blur the lines between these activities. Plan your days to ensure that you have a good mixture of all three and you will be on the road to having an excellent work / life balance.
How you plan your days is entirely up to you, but you can do some simple things. For instance, leave your office / place of work during your lunch break and go for a walk. Eat your lunch in the park or visit a place you haven't been to in a while. If you work in a city, you have museums and art gallery's, bookshops and woolstores to fill your creative mind with, so why not use them.
Load up your mp3 player with whatever talking / motivational type books you have and use the walking time as your personal university. You can also use travelling time to and from places if you spend a lot of time on the road. Personally I find a mixture of music and e-books to be a good combination during my driving to and from the office. The drive home is a good time for music - a chance to turn off the brain....with the drive down a chance to fire up the brain so that when I get to work I am wide awake and full of great ideas.
And try not to eat very late at night. The body will spend the time processing the extra food it doesn't need, giving you a restless night, and nicely padded fat cells.
As always, these are merely suggestions, whilst they have worked for me, I do not advocate a one-size fits no-one strategy, besides I'm hoping you will have some good ones you can share with your fellow readers. To join in the discussion - go here
