Say thanks
When do you say thank you? Who do you say thank you to? What do you say thank you for? What are you grateful to be able to do?
As it is Thanksgiving in the US I thought I would take the opportunity to pass on my thanks to those of you who have been with me from the very beginning of MotivateMe and the Daily Dose of Motivational Medicine, the comments, the feedback, it has been a wonderful learning experience and a fantastic growth opportunity for me. And 2008 is going to be amazing, and yes you'll get to benefit too.
One thing I would like to say though is this - you shouldn't need a "special" day to say thanks and mean it. Every day is a special day if you greet it with a light heart and a smile.
Am I being flippant? When I was thinking about those questions I posed at the top of this piece, I started to write down some of the answers, which i thought i would share with you. If you do this also, you too will discover a lighter heart and a smile - it's amazingly infectious task. And once it's written down all you need to do is re-read your list when you are not feeling quite so happy about life to discover what good you have.
So here is my list:
Who am I thankful for?
My parents - I wouldn't be here without them
My siblings
My kids
My partner
My friends and work colleagues - for letting me be me....
My ex - the kids wouldn't be here without him !!
My teachers, mentors and people who have helped shape the person I have become
My fur kids - it's hard to be unhappy when you watch kittens at play
What "things" am I thankful for?
Having enough money to pay my bills and live a lifstyle that few outside the western world can enjoy
Living in Western Australia - what an amazing place.
Clean water, clear air, wildlife I used to dream about seeing in the wild when I was a kid....I'm here, living my dream
Rainbows, Rain, a starry night
Being outside and allowing the outside into my home - wonderful to work in that kind of environment
My rather interesting and eclectic wardrobe
My extensive book and music collection
My home and car - a zippy ford fiesta zetec - sports body kit, panther black with gold stripes
What else am I thankful for?
Eyes that allow me to view this amazing place and the people in it, to read, to watch
Ears that allow me to experience the wonders of music, nature, speech and laughter
Being in love and being loved - you can't beat that glow
Being able to touch and feel - and i include "things" such as the feel of sand between my toes, the warmth of the sun on my skin, the breeze in my hair, a child's hand in mine, a teenage son who still sits on my knee for cuddles
A smile and a stolen kiss
To speak, to write, to communicate, to share
To quote a very famous song "these are a few of my favourite things" what are you thankful for?

I'm a little wary of using the term "G_d" as I do not want to offend those who believe in other higher powers....I actually like Dave Allen's way of putting it...."Goodnight, thank you and may your God go with you"
Hence why the spiritual dimension was missing from the list
