Good Morning, I hope this finds you well and enjoying this Tuesday morning.
Did you get lots of things done yesterday, did you enjoy the process? Or was it a total grind?
It's important as you may have realised by now to enjoy whatever it is you are doing. But sometimes, we don't. And it can be as simple as that. Our minds and thoughts are off wandering into places they shouldn't be allowed to go. We day dream our way through the day, hoping for someone or something to pull us through. We're bored and we don't know why. Yesterday we had a great day, today? today may not be so good, today you may want to rip someone's head off, you may want to go and hide in a dark corner and not come out again until spring. But lets be honest, these are just feelings and feelings can be controlled and changed. Yes they can!!
So what can you do?
Well a few thoughts -
Stop whatever it is you are doing, grab a notebook and pen and write down all the stuff running through your head. If you haven't managed to do your brain dump today this may be the major cause for your distress/disinterest in whatever you are doing today.
Now too many days of feeling like this and I would like to make another suggestion. Get a job you enjoy, you obviously don't like the one you are doing. So find something else. And yes it can be as simple as making that decision that can get you off the morose into the excitement again.
Go through your ramblings, in them you will see what is the cause of your distraction. If you can, deal with it now. After all you are useless otherwise. So transfer the item to your to do list and make sure it is the first thing you do this morning.
If you can't see anything in particular that is causing you to feel distracted, you just are, then there are still a couple of things you can do. You can remove yourself from the environment for a while. Whilst this can be classed as running away, I do think better on my feet and will go for a walk, especially if it's noisy. Thankfully the boss understands my need for creative peace so understands my need to walk on occassion. But if you don't have an understanding boss, then make sure you get out and about at lunch time. What you may have been unable to write down, you may be able to admit to yourself in the quiet space of walking. So think it out.
The other thing you can do, is persist with whatever it is you are doing. Pretent everything is normal and just do whatever it is that needs doing. Sooner or later the job will be done, and you can get on and do something else. But when all else fails persistence is a key to breaking the procrastination habit.
