Because...
You can overcome the procrastination habit - but first you need to admit that you have a problem with procrastination. You see most people don't mind admitting that they smoke or eat too much, they're not quite as willing to admit that they delay starting things, or start things and don't finish them. They make excuses - oh well I didn't do so and so because....
Because is a great word when you want to explain why you didn't get around to doing whatever it was you know you should have done. Because is our way of trying to wheedle our way out of accepting responsibility for our actions.
I didn't get around to it because....
- I didn't have the time/money/space/energy
- My kids/family/friends/work colleagues wanted me to do .... and i ran out of time to ...
Actually the reason why you didn't do something is BECAUSE you didn't want to. Admitting that you didn't want to do something can be the first step in recognising that you do have a problem with procrastination. Too many people hide behind the word "because" and those who don't hide behind the word "because" hide behind the other procrastination words - BUT and TRY.
Because, But and Try are words our minds associate with not doing all that we can. And every time we use them we are giving ourselves an excuse to give up when the going gets a little bumpy.
So if you want to break the procrastination habit you have to stop giving yourself permission to fail. Accept responsibility for the decisions you have made so far and those you are about to make. And if you don't want to do something, don't pretend that you do. And stop using the kind of words that hold you back from achieving greater things.
"Do or do not, there is no try"
Yoda.
