Life is short, make yours count
Today I was going to talk to you about your reading material and the impact that can have on where you end up at the end of your life. But a major event has just occurred in a campus at Virginia Tech - where a friend and colleague of mine works, so that will have to wait until tomorrow. For those of you who haven't heard the news yet, there has been a shooting - and it has been labelled by the press as a massacre. Staff and students are involved and at this stage I don't know whether my friend - Professor Ray Dessy is one of those involved.
All i can do is wait for the news.
Way back when I worked at a chemical company in their research department, we were looking for some information to do with Electronic Laboratory NoteBooks. In those days, few people were talking about the longevity of digital records - one of the people we found was Ray Dessy. Many conversations, emails and christmas cards later, we are still no further forward with the answer to how on earth do we keep electronic records in a way that we can still access them in 5 years let alone 50 - but people like myself, Ray and others like him are still looking for the answer.
So why am I telling you about my relationship with a guy I've never met personally?
Well - when I needed help and information, Ray was one of the few that answered the call. A genuine person who was willing to help a complete stranger. The information he shared allowed us to make an informed decision on a major business venture, and for that I am grateful.
As today has shown, we never know what today is going to bring, let alone tomorrow. So before you waste your day on things that do not matter, things that take you away from living the life you say you want to live, remember life is short. So make yours count. Be remembered as the person who made a difference to the way other people's lives turn out.
With love and light
Elle
