Respect for yourself starts the process

Respect for yourself says that you will do whatever is in your power to achieve what you say you want to achieve.

Respect for yourself means that you will:
Eat well
Exercise your mind and body on a regular basis
Dress to impress yourself

It means that you don't treat your mind and body like a garbage dump, or infecting other people with your negativity....should you happen to suffer from that particular problem. It also means that you think twice before infecting yourself with whatever negative thought patterns that are running around your head at any particular point in time.

Why is all this important?

Well there are lots of reasons, some of which we have already covered in the many issues of the Daily Dose, but one of the most important reasons is that we are always being judged by those people around us. You may not consider that you are in a position of leadership, but we are. Every one of us, all of the time. Remember me telling you that you are the CEO of the business of you, well you need to add Leader to that title also.

You may have children who look up to you, subordinates who check to see what you are doing first before they start doing their daily tasks. Your brothers and sisters will check to see what you are doing before deciding whether to emulate you or not, and they will emulate you - for good or for bad. Your neighbours look to see whether you are taking care of your property and then decide whether to treat it and you with respect.

OK, sometimes it doesn't work. For example, my neighbours are a little less than respectful at times, but it's amazing what peer pressure can do. My son advised the neighbours son that throwing rocks was not the done thing. But it was also interesting that when there was trouble between the neighbourhood children and a blow in from another neighbourhood, it was me they came to sort it out. You see, the children watched and were aware that it was me who could sort out an issue they were not yet able to handle themselves. And in turn now know how to handle similar problems in the future.

Are you seen as someone who people can turn to? Do people look to you with respect? Or as someone who is a perfect example of what NOT to do?

We all have immense power. How do you use yours?

With many thoughts
Elle
