Personal development lasts a lifetime

You don't get to a certain point in your life and decide to yourself, that's it. There is nothing more to learn. No new insights to be gained. No new places to visit, people to meet or t-shirts to buy. You don't decide that if that really is it, you might as well go and sit in a corner, gathering dust until the day you die. You don't do you? I would hope not, not after everything we've spoken about.

But if you think about it, that's exactly how most people live. Or should I say "exist". They do the same things day after day, week after week, year after boring year. Can you imagine getting to the year 2012 and discovering you wear the same kinds of clothes, in the same styles, eat the same kinds of foods, been to the same place on holiday 5 times, hung out with the same group of people, and you still talk about the same kinds of things.

I'm sure there will be people reading this who would say, no, know way would I do the same things in the same way for the next five years.

No?

Well then it is time to take a good hard look at the last 5 years. Of the students reading this, please consider taking stock of the last 12 - 24 months of your lives, or look at the senior members of your family for evidence of behavioural patterns.

One of the best ways to do this is to get the photo albums out. What did you wear 5 years ago? What are you wearing now?
What size were you 5 years ago? Have you lost or gained weight?
What programmes did you start and fail to complete?
How many jobs have you had?
What new skills have your learned?
How many books have you read? Actually I can't answer this one properly myself - I just know that the answer lies in the hundreds...so you don't have to be that specific. Just a general clue as to whether you are taking your personal development seriously or not.

Consider that if you do nothing different in the next 90 days, chances are going to be good that the next 900 days are going to be the same. The only difference will be the date.

With Many thoughts,
