Find examples

Have you ever wondered how you can start a project or visualise your better future, if you have no idea what to focus upon?

I know that I have said to you in the past, if you want a better future, then you have to start to "see it" in your minds eye. Once you can "see" it, you will know what steps you need to take.

Well I have a confession to make - I missed out an important step - sorry.

I can hear the groans from here "gee thanks Elle no wonder all this positive visualisation stuff isn't working".

SO WHAT'S THE STEP? I can hear you yell.

Well - you don't have to re-invent the wheel. You can find examples of things that you know you want, and you can use those to build your new future upon.

Do you want to write a book but can't imagine a book with your name on it? Then get one that is of a similar size and shape for the one you want to produce, then create your own cover. Voila, one book. Then all you have to do is fill in the pages. And yes it can be as simple as that. That's exactly what I did when I was struggling to imagine what my book was going to look like.

Find magazines, grab a pair of scissors and a big piece of card, or a pin board - find things that you want, cut em out and stick em up. Sounds too much like the secret? Well - all we are trying to do at this point is re-train your mind, so that it focuses on what you do want, rather than the lack of what you don't currently have in your life at the moment. Which is where most of us fall down. I'd like a so and so....but I don't have the money, can't imagine being able to live there, or whatever negative mantra you've gotten running around your head. All this does is focuses your mind on the positive things. Do not think about the positive and then negate it - as we discussed last week. Only think that you can achieve it.

Examples are the key to a better life. Find examples of people you admire, what do they wear, what do they sound like? How do they shake hands?

I was subjected to the worst kind of car sales man - greasy hair, body odour and the limpest hand shake you could possibly imagine. Add the classic "can you imagine yourself driving this" and you can imagine how fast I ran out of the car yard. Nothing wrong with the car, just the image of the person selling it to me would forever taint the driving of the vehicle from there on in.

Examples, we are surrounded by them. So choose the ones you want to cultivate, and then incorporate those traits, skills and abilities into your life. Find pictures, morph yourself into them - use photoshop if you can, or scissors and sticky tape - it doesn't matter. Once you have created the "you" you want to be - then you can begin to live up to that new image you have created in your minds eye.

Remember, everything that surrounds you - started off life as a thought.

So get thunking
