Turn your habits upside down
I hope this finds you well and looking forward to another day of achievement. It doesn't matter whether you achieve something big or small, it matters that you are achieving, fulfilling your goals and your dreams.
As you know we headed over to England on Sunday morning. And whilst I have been to sleep, my body is not convinced of the fact. I know we haven't spent much time at home, but even so, it feels like we have done more in two days than I normally manage to achieve in a week back at home.
Which of course got me thinking. Our routines are completely upside down. The habits that we had in place have gone, replaced by new experiences, new sights, new sounds and certainly new smells. I'd forgotten what winter smelt like in rural England - woodsmoke mingled with damp earth. Wind whipped cold cheeks and a rosy glow that you can't get from anywhere else.
When you have a complete break, when something forces you to stop, to change what you are doing, and to re-evaluate EVERYTHING you have a chance to decide what you want to keep in your life and what you would like to get rid of completely.
Of course my mum is going to have to do that big time with dad gone. But being here in these first few weeks will allow her to transition, to put space and time between the trauma and remembering the good times she shared with my dad. And it is a pleasure to help her do that.
You don't have to wait for a major trauma or event to make a difference to the way your life turns out, anytime you decide you want to, you can begin to make small and deliberate changes that will, over time, make for massive change in the long run. As I said at the beginning, remember the small achievements, sometimes they can be more powerful than the big ones.
