Aspire to be different

Having come home for the first time in 12 years I am struck by how many people who live (and have died) in the same village where I was born and raised, do the same things day after day. I am not talking about eating breakfast at 7.15 am on the dot, but who have worked in the same position since leaving school, or gone on holiday to the same place every year for the last umpteen years. And it doesn't stop there. Yes we all need routines, but.

I started to wonder if it was just "my" village. Then I remembered logging onto the website friends reunited....and was again struck by how many people who stated similar things on their profiles. Now I am not saying it is a bad thing to live your life in one place, or keep the same job for ever and a day, nor how incredibly hard it is to move away and try something new, or break the habits of a lifetime. Just that you can if you really want to. For instance, my husband and I moved two young children 12,000 miles away. Whilst our marriage didn't survive the upheaval, I can't imagine moving back to village thinking.

So - something for you to think about over the next few days, what have you always done? Are you happy doing what you've always done, or are there some things you would desperately like to change? And no, you don't have to move 12,000 miles to make a difference to the way your life turns out.
