Through the looking glass

---------------------------
Today's daily dose: Through the looking glass
---------------------------
If someone were to make a film of your life, would it win an oscar for the best story line? Or would it win the award for the most people walking out after just a few minutes or sending everyone to sleep?

The truth is most people's personal story line wouldn't make for exciting viewing. Given that most people do the same things day after day, week after week and yes year after year it's hardly surprising.

If you keep a journal you can go back and check what you were doing on a certain date. Pick random pages and read the entries - now pick a few more, are you still talking about the same things as you were then? Are you still battling the same issues? Do you still have the same goals written down as you did a year ago, 3 years ago? Why?

If you don't keep a journal - it's a little harder to prove - but you will KNOW whether or not you are still dealing with the same issues.

So what can you do about it?

Well if you consider that tomorrow a film crew will be following you around all day taking stock shots of everything you do, would you still be willing to do the same things in the same way?

If you bear in mind that even some of the most colourful characters can seem deadly dull when viewed through the "reality" lens, just how bland would your film be if theirs is portrayed in such a boring way?

So tomorrow, pick one of the recurring issues - stop talking about fixing it, but take it apart, think about it, then write down 10 strategies you can take to beat it. Believe me when I say this - your "problem" will have 10, 20 or even a hundred different solutions to it, and more often than not, because we are usually focussing on the problem - and not how to fix it, it never gets fixed. So - go for the solution instead. What can you do - again the caveat - if time, money and energy were not an issue what would you do?

Then choose one of the "solutions" and start working on it.

With many thoughts

OK - that got me thinking hard! My life has not been dull but I wonder if some of the glamour of it is there to keep me from noticing that actually, I need to do some of the duller stuff to get to my goals. LIke now, when I am supposed to be putting names on my data base and part of me is planning a horseback safari. I'll think about this one for a while yet. Thanks.
