Today's daily dose: Processing the information
---------------------------
Yesterday, well last night actually I went to a seminar on Humanistic Neuro Linguistic Programming (HNLP) with Gary de Rodriguez. The sceptic in me says, well if only half of what he had to say was true - boy do I havea LOT of issues to deal with. The realist in me says, well if only half of what he has to say is true - boy do you have a lot of issues you need to deal with.
What I do know to be true is this.
Going into any kind of seminar or training opportunity gives you a chance to challenge your current way of thinking. You cannot be half open minded any more than you can be half pregnant. You either are willing to think things through, accept that the way you have always done things may not be the right ways or you can carry on thinking the world and its occupants are there for your own needs and be damned to anyone who tells you otherwise.
And that may offend some of the readers of the daily dose. But I hope not.
What may offend some of you is this - get ready for this one
There are no magic bullets. You want to lose weight? Great - eat less and exercise more. Want to get fit? - Great - exercise more. Want to learn new things? Fantastic - pick a subject and wade straight in.
One thing is certain - there are some things you can delegate. But I cannot ask you to eat well for me, or do an hour on the treadmill because I don't have time. I could get you to read outloud to me - but why would I do that when there are such "magical" instruments such as Tape and CD / DVD Players / Recorders out there. In fact this one I can multi-task (as you can) - strap on your MP3 player and go for a walk, or go the gym. Stick a CD in the car and learn your way to work.
Now this is usually where the "author" of most e-zines offer to sell you their program for x amount, so you can learn all about their particular system. But I don't have one yet :-)
But I'm sure you will have one lying around gathering dust somewhere. So instead of listening to the radio on the way to work, stick on in the car and have another listen.
I have always said - if you only learn ONE thing from a training session, book or CD program - then it has moved your thinking by 1 degree. If you read one book each week for a year and you get 1 thing from each book you will have moved your thinking along by a fair bit. But if you put one of things into action, you will benefit a hundred fold. Why? Because once you see what changes you can make and how easy it is - well who knows what you will be able to do.
When you process the information you receive, ask yourself - does this help me to understand myself and my issues any better? If not - what else do I need to know? By all means process the information, that is important. But don't forget - you cannot just read, you still have to apply the knowledge to gain the benefit.
With many thoughts
