Through the looking glass: the power of old photos
Through the looking glass: the power of old photos
OH boy did I have a wake up call today. I am in the midst of creating a powerpoint slideshow for a breakfast seminar we are running in a couple of weeks. One of the things I was asked to do was to add some photos of the staff and add job titles - so those people who don't know us, will be able to tell who we are (as opposed to just being a voice on the end of a telephone).
So why a wake up call? Well I was looking at some old photos of myself - well a couple of years old at any rate - and I've come to the sad realisation that I am still talking about losing weight / size as I was then. I've fallen off so many band wagons I'm surprised I'm not black and blue. But it's no wonder I feel like I've travelled this road before - I have. Cut back on exercise, gain weight, get discouraged, kick in with more exercise and better diet - lose weight - get bored / distracted / injured - cut back on exercise. An endless cycle, you'd think I would learn.
Now I know I'm not alone in this struggle, and of course it doesn't have to just apply to weight loss / gain and the amount of exercise we do or don't do. But anything - from attempting to stop smoking and using drugs and alcohol to building our businesses, getting them to a certain point and then not following through with the final piece that would take ourselves from average to outstanding. And you know how to take yourself and your business from average to outstanding? You do don't you - I do, now all I have to do is apply that to my life. The answer is of course:
- Persistence
- Patience and
- Application of the same fundamentals day after day.
Now I'm not saying you should get out the old photos - but I tell you, they can be a real eye opener. But take a good look at what you are saying to yourself day after day. I will go on that diet tomorrow. I will cut back on the (insert words), I will make more phone calls tomorrow, I will - no I promise I will start tomorrow.
Well after seeing my photos - I'm not waiting until tomorrow. My tomorrow is definitely today.
Don't believe me - well I've just dug a trench in my garden so I can sink some reticulation pipe, once this is on the way I shall be hitting the road jack. So, speak to you tomorrow.
And let me know which bandwagons you've fallen off.
