Consider the consequences
Today's daily dose: Consider the consequences
---------------------------
Today's message is one to consider as we move into what I term "the silly season". Remember, our choices and decisions can have a major impact on other people, and not always immediately.
Consider the consequences of going to drinks after work.
We may decide to have a drink or two and then decide to drive home. We don't think our reaction times will be affected, but we fail to take into consideration any of the other factors. Tiredness, other people's reaction times, the darkness etc, Occasionally we may get away with drinking and driving. We didn't have an accident, and we weren't pulled over by the cops. But there may come a time when we do impact on other people - in a big way when we do have an accident. We may hurt or kill ourselves and / or the other driver and his passengers or own passengers. We also need to consider the impact we will have on the police, fire and rescue and ambulance crews who now have to fix your mistake as best they can before taking the bent and broken bodies to the hospital or the funeral home.
You may lose your licence and / or your liberty. And all because of your decision to drink and drive.
Of course your short-term choices may not have an immediate impact. Too much alcohol over a long period of time. Cigarettes, food and illicit substances may not be obvious for months if not years but eventually the impact of each seemingly insignificant choice will be felt by members of your family as they watch you undergo treatment for the many health problems you now have.
At the end of the day - you have a choice. But please remember those choices will have an impact on other people. Question is - are you still willing to make those same choices now?
With many thoughts
