Focus
Focus. It was a question raised by one of the readers of the Daily Dose recently. How could they become more focussed, yet find balance.
So as a first point, I'd like to borrow from a favourite online dictionary - dictionary.com the following:
Focus is:
1. a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity
2. In Physics. a point at which rays of light, heat, or other radiation, meet after being refracted or reflected.
3. the clear and sharply defined condition of an image.
4. to bring to a focus or into focus: to focus the lens of a camera.
5. to concentrate: to focus one's thoughts.
When you know where you are headed with regards to your goals, when you know what it is you want to achieve, then and only then will you be clear about what you need to do next. OK, you may not know the finer details, especially if you have never worked on that particular goal item before....but I can guarantee someone, somewhere will have - so cut out some learning time, admit that you need help and ask....and if you don't know of anyone personally - then "google" it.
But if you don't know what you want, if you are a little hazy with regards to what you want - then your vision will be hazy too. You will not be able to focus on the end result, simply because you don't know what that end result will look like and you will be swayed by other things just outside of your peripheral vision.
One other thing I will say about focusing on a particular goal...sometimes it can be the wrong goal, or not set far enough ahead. Imagine climbing a tree, getting to the top only to find you're in the wrong jungle. So remember to ask yourself WHY - what is the primary reason for wanting to focus on a particular something and not something else. Why are you hacking your way through the jungle in the first place? Remember, pots of gold are never found at the end of rainbows, and as far as I know - most lost cities aren't made of gold...for those of you who've seen the latest Indiana Jones movie!!! but it doesn't stop people trying to find them. Look by all means, but remember you may end your life very disappointed.
So what am I saying? Focus on what you are good at, and are willing to devote your energy to becoming good at. Focus on those things that mean something to you, and not on those things that live in the realms of dreams of when I win the lottery I am going to .... remember to stand a chance of winning, you still have to go and buy a ticket.
Kind Regards
Elle
