Motivate Me - Daily Dose of Motivational Medicine - Back on line
It's been almost a week since my last posting to you. If you've been across to the main site at Motivate Me you will have seen a couple of posts explaining just what has happened. But for those of you who haven't been across, merely wondered where I had gone to - well the answer is a simple one. The hard drive on my laptop died just after sending last week's e-zine.
So, first and foremost, apologies for being off the air. We are well and truly back on line again. I must also apologise if in the re-building of the newsletter distribution list, you've been inadvertantly added back - after you'd asked to be unsubscribed. Just drop me a quick note (politely please) and let me know - and I can rectify the situation.
Of course being offline has given me plenty of time for thought. I've still been working you understand - just not on the laptop.... And if you would like to know what to do in the event of a "disaster" such as mine - then read the entry I posted after it had happened. But just to give you an idea of the scale of the problem. The laptop contained all the software I used to run the MotivateMe site, including the email send program I use to send these newsletters. I had backed up the mission critical documents and stuff and had saved them onto an external driver, but had forgotten the mail program. Consequently I could either load it up to the ancient desktop machine we have and hope it would work, or wait for the laptop to be re-built and re-load it onto that. I opted for the latter. The less that goes on the desktop machine the better. As I said in an earlier posting - don't assume it can't happen to you - it can.
Disaster planning and preparation is all about making sure you have enough "insurance" should the inevitable happen. Your back ups are your insurance. There is one other point to mention with regards to disaster planning - and that is - what do you value and would you be able to pick it up in a hurry if you were evacuated on a Monday morning when the firemen banged on your door and told you to vacate your premises. Yes that happened to us this monday - when my neighbours house caught fire. The firemen did a fantastic job, saving our house and those of our other neighbours. But given the speed and the severity of the fire, totally destroyed the house and everything in it. Would you be able to build from the ground up? My neighbours have nothing - bar the clothes they were wearing and what they could pick up on the way out of the door. Given that one of the children was burnt in the process it's not hard to see where your priorities
should lie. But not everyone thinks the same way.
Are your "affairs" in order - would you be able to build again from the ground up and be back up and running quickly or would you struggle to know what you had, As always something to think about ElleMotivateMe! Providing you with the strategies you need to overcome theprocrastination habit.
