Making more for yourself

It's not very often I recommend books or restaurants, well you know what "they" say - you can guarantee neither will be as good for the person you've told as you yourself know them to be, but today I am about to do just that anyway - because in both cases they are excellent.

Yesterday I happened to mention I was about to start reading a book called the Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann - well I started it last night and eventually went to sleep about midnight - after finishing it. To say I am in awe of the writing is an understatement. I must have read every business parable book there is - and this one is by far the best I have ever read. Yes there are lessons to be learned and homework to do to really understand the principles, but believe me if you do, you will understand why this book is so powerful. As I mentioned yesterday - I was convinced the book would match my personal philosophy - and maybe that's why it resonates so well with me....because it did - totally. So, if you only read one book this year - then this is the one to read, because it is going to be a classic. As in - everyone will be quoting it for decades to come. Just like they do Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich or Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Buy it, read it and apply the principles - they will change your life. And that is a very bold statement to make for a Thursday evening. Oh and just in case you are wondering - no I don't get anything to endorse the book - except the knowledge that I have just added value to your lives by telling you about it :-)

And the restaurant? Well coffee actually. Next time you are in Northbridge, Western Australia go to a place called Source Foods, opposite the Brisbane Hotel. They do the best coffee (IMHO) in Perth. Now whether it's as good as Rachel's is another matter (BTW read the book) - but it's VERY good. But one thing, can you please make sure you don't all go a the same time - it's only a small place - so you may have to wait for your coffee if you do - but believe me when  say if there is a queue the wait is definitely worth it :-).

To carry on with today's edition of the daily dose of motivational medicine - sounds like a quote straight from the go-giver...but isn't (told you we shared the same philosophies) - go the extra mile whenever you can, wherever you can.

Are you in sales? Personally I think we are all in the business of selling something to someone. But just for the record there are the great service people, their customer service is excellent, their people skills are just phenomenal and you want to go back. I'm sure you all know places like that with people you would just love to have working with you. And there are those places who really shouldn't deserve your custom, I mean if everyone treated their customers in that way - what a sad and dour place that would be. Case in point - I needed to get my car serviced. So I searched the net and found the phone number - trouble was - a 1300 number ... please key in the post code of where you live - but I don't want my car serviced where I live, I want it serviced where it's most convenient for me, and I have no idea what their postcode is - please wait your call is important to us....no its not, otherwise you wouldn't make me spend 5 minutes getting through to the correct number. Needless to say I will be picking up a business card when I get there on the weekend so I can dial direct next time.

Make it easy for people to do business with you and people will. Make it a joy for people to do business with you and they will come in droves and refer their friends to you.

Sincerely
Elle
