Today's daily dose: Move on
---------------------------
Will it matter next week?
What about next month or next year?
Will you still be reliving each moment in glorious technicolour detail?
I am talking about the hurts, the pain, the negative "stuff" that flows around us from time to time.
I'm sure you will have those moments you wish would go away and never come back. Those embarrassing moments and times you wish you could erase from your memory banks. Well there is one thing I have learned over the years - you cannot live your life backwards. You cannot spend all your time living in the past, if you want to move forwards. But a lot of people do. They go over and over the old hurts, they can't let go of the pain of regret and embarrasment.
Think about it, if you fill your mind with "old" there will be no space for the new. And more often than not, you will find the same things cropping up time and time again, reinforcing those same things in your mind. Ground hog day.
Now, it is important to remember the lessons, but at the same time it is also important to forget it and move on....ask yourself some of the simple questions we started today's edition with....will this matter tomorrow? Will it matter next week? Should you be thinking about this in five years time? The answers of course will depend on you. Will this matter tomorrow? - Only if you let it. Will this matter next week? - Only if you let it. Will this matter in five years time? - Only if you let it.
But how do you turn it around?
Can you think positive thoughts and good things will come to you?
Sometimes
But it's not a bad place to begin.
Once you have started to think about the good things you already have in your life, it is time to take things just a little further.
When you next have the opportunity - try and give more than is expected of you - to someone else.
It could be something as simple as a smile, or a compliment. Giving someone the chance to talk while you listen (without interrupting or offering advice - i know hard :-) ) or doing something for someone without being prompted or even without them knowing. If everyone decided that from today they would give more than was expected, can you imagine how good everyone else would feel? And of course you too would benefit, not only from knowing you made a difference to someone else. But that someone else made a difference to you.
And aren't those feelings and emotions ones you do want to remember next week, next month and in a few years time. When you had the chance to make a difference and you did.
With many thoughts
Elle
