Today's Daily Dose: 9th September 2008

Set the alarm for 15 minutes earlier than normal

It may not seem like a lot, but those 15 minutes can be used in many ways to improve your day. For example:

  • Cook and eat a healthy breakfast rather than just grabbing a cup of coffee on the way out of the door.
  • Read a chapter from your favourite book.
  • Think, pray, meditate
  • Exercise - It's amazing how many miles you can do on a bike in just 15 minutes, or how many sit ups and press ups you can do.
  • Write your ideal day down in your diary / journal and then watch it unfold before you. Most people use journalling as a way of ending the day, I prefer to decide what my day is going to be like - before it starts. My journals are sometimes full of lists - Need to do, must remember, answers to questions that have popped into my mind as I've slept (you know when you have those Eureka! moments) and other questions that need answering. I write everything down so I don't forget. Do it regularly and believe me it need only take 5 minutes, but in the beginning - take as long as you need. One thing though - these are not just idle lists....within these pre-creation day lists are things that are really "bugging" me - too many of the same types of comments means that something really should be done about "it" and they become front of mind issues to deal with. Without my pre-creation day lists, my days seem to lack cohesion and structure, and I don't appear to get as much done as those days when I do write my pre-creation day lists.
Try one of the suggestions, try them all - they may not work for you - but if you don't try them you will never know. And one way to overcome the procrastination habit and beat it for good is to keep on trying new strategies until you find the ones that work for you.
