Into the dream state

Dream statements are not goals, they're just throw away comments we make to appease our inner selves into thinking we are going to succeed this time around.

Any statement or thought you make that starts with the phrase

"I wish I had ...." are dream statements. We know we're never going to do anything about them - not really. We might try for a little while, but sooner rather than later "real world" creeps back in, sidling around our attempts at making changes.

Goals should be front of mind and front of desk, they should be the first thing you think about when you wake up and they should be the last thing you think about before you go to sleep. If you occassionally sit down and say to yourself - today I'm going to work on my goals for half an hour - I'd say you've lost the plot. Every decision you make and every action you take should be associated with one of your goals - somewhere. Real world stuff does happen - we all know that. But if you want to succeed in achieving your goals, you need to know:

a) what they are
b) what you are doing now to move towards them
c) why you say you want to achieve them

Dream statements are like those affirmations we occassionally use. We think that by saying a few words mantra like a couple of times a day it will get us to where we say we want to be. But if all you are doing is papering over the negativity that fills your life with the odd word of encouragement, then the words are useless. You need to live your goals, you need to understand that the journey to reaching your goal is just as important as reaching the goal itself. But if you don't enjoy the journey - will you enjoy the destination? Perhaps you will - in your dreams.
