Make one change today
November 1, 2009 at 13:03 Action - we all need to take it if we want to get anywhere in life.
* Unless you want to live in a pigsty you will need to clean up - at least now and then
* Unless you want to starve - you are going to have to eat, and in some cases you also have to fetch the groceries and cook the foods you have acquired
* Unless you want to wear the same dirty clothes every day you are going to have to do the laundry
* Unless you want to stay doing the same things in the same way as you have always done, then you are going to have to open your mind to new opportunities for growth.
* Unless you have a rich benefactor who can "give" you a small fortune, or you are lucky enough to win the lottery, you are going to have to do SOMETHING to earn the money you need to do the other things you say you want to do.
I'm sure you get the point - if you don't take action - you will not do anything. YES doing the laundry is taking action, reading a book is opening your mind to new possibilities and ways to improve your life.
It's interesting, I keep hearing about the people who spent a good deal of time, energy and money on Halloween. Costumes, parties, treats. I just wish everyone would have that same kind of commitment to the rest of their lives. If you can achieve "that" for one day of the year - just imagine what you can achieve if your other goals were as exciting.
My question to you then, is why do you have boring goals on your list? Mine are exciting - in some cases they are downright scary - swim with whale sharks? I can swim, but in open water with massive sea creatures who can swallow you and not notice? eeeek - so why do I have goals like that on my list?
My answer is two fold:
* Why not? and
* Because I can
I am also of the opinion that if an opportunity is presented to you, you need to take a deep breath and say - yes all right I'm willing to do that, where do I sign up? What do I need to do?
The alternative to taking opportunities as they are presented to you is what? Doing nothing? Doing the same things? Never getting on? Never achieving anything you say you wanted to achieve? Life is meant to be lived - funnily enough. We don't say - I'm existing my life, we say I'm living my life. But most people are merely existing, and you are too if you have been given talents you aren't using, or not doing the things you know you should be doing.
This week I would like to set you some homework, don't worry there isn't a test at the end of it (although I would if I could). I would like you to re-read one of the many growth and development books you have gathering dust on your shelves. I want you to make some notes on the things that resonate with you. And then I would like you to implement one new change as a result this week.
