A blueprint for life
A blueprint for living your life comes down to a few fundamentals:
In yourself and your own knowledge and personal development.
As Benjamin Franklin said “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest”
In those people around you.
Find the good in all people all the time and you will see them grow. Conversely if you expect little, you will get little. There have been many studies on this subject over the years. In some cases, teachers were told at the start of a new year – these kids are great, they may whinge and moan, but they’re just pretending to be lazy. Another teacher was told, these kids will never amount to anything, so I shouldn’t try too hard. The teacher who had the “clever” kids taught clever kids and the kids all did well. The teacher who had the “average” kids had average results – well what was the point in trying, after all they were never going to amount to anything. The truth is – none of the kids were “clever” nor were the other kids “average” it was the way they were treated that made the biggest difference. Imagine if you had that kind of “power” over someone else’s behaviour and life. Well you do – every single day, with every single interaction you have, you have the power to build people up, or knock people down. Be a person who builds people up.
In your financial future and security.
Don’t spend all that you earn and then a bit more. Every book on financial management states – if you want to be rich you need to a) rob a bank b) wait for great aunt doris to die and leave you a fortune or – actually you need to spend less than you earn and invest the difference.
In your health and fitness.
Do you remember the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor at bay?” well what if that were true…if you ate “well” every day would you suffer from obesity and diet related diseases in later life? What about if you did some kind of moderate exercise every day rather than trying to run a marathon on a weekend to keep the weight down wouldn’t that make more sense? In the western world we have so much food to choose from it is so very easy to overeat. A few extra calories consumed every day may not seem like much – but over the course of a year add to what is known as weight creep. As we get older we also tend to slow down, but if we carry on eating the same amount as we did when we were younger, we are going to have buy a new set of clothes every couple of years….and who can afford to do that? So make a commitment to your future health by reducing the indulgences and / or learning how to run a marathon every weekend if you want to continue to eat more than your body needs for optimal health.
In your home.
Picking up a few things every day and putting them away means you don’t have to spend all your free time cleaning. I don’t have space on my washing line for the amount of laundry created each week to have a single day to “do the washing”, so I keep on top of the laundry by putting in a load every day or every other day. And it’s the same with everything. You don’t wait til the weekend to wash the dishes. Do something every day and soon it won’t seem like cleaning at all….just something that you do.
In your goals.
Invest a little time every day and you won’t be able to stop yourself from achieving anything you set your mind to.
In your faith.
Don’t neglect who you are.
This is a blueprint for a better life – your life. Live it with passion.
