winding up for the end of the year

Most people wind down for the end of the year, but I prefer to push through this time and get stuck into some "stuck" projects and those things I just don't seem to find the time for during the rest of the year.

I love the thought of being able to get organised in the lead up to christmas by cleaning out various spaces that seem to accumulate "stuff" during the year. One of the reasons is a simple one - my budget does not run to a single shopping expedition - and besides who can find everything they need in one go? Well certainly not me, so I buy bits and pieces and store them. Over the course of about 6 months the house gets progressively fuller so it is a relief to begin to parcel up the goodies and send them onto their new homes and owners.

The same goes for big things I know are coming up. At the beginning of January my daughter turns 18 and so we have been accummulating bits and pieces for the party...

During this wind up time I clean out filing trays and put things into the archive (well it's a collection of archive boxes of the kids stuff - their school work through the year, the certificates of achievement, the letters of concern, Rhia's yr 12 school shirt she got her friends to write on on the last day...etc)

And I usually plan at least one painting project. Last year was my son's bedroom, this year it's going to be the kitchen, dining and my office - the colour scheme just isn't right.... and I've got the time to paint as I don't do sitting down and resting for very long. Most people rest for so long they need jump starting...cos their batteries have gone flat. Don't be like those people.

This is also the time I re-evaluate my goals...what did I achieve, what didn't I achieve, why? why not? I decide which need keeping and therefore re-evaluating and working on, and I discard or file the rest. Many of my stalled projects relate to books I've started to write. I don't have the head space to write fiction as much as I would like, and case in point - as I was going through one set of files, found a complete manuscript - it is now a couple of years since I last looked at it, so I shall read, edit and consider sending it off to a publisher for a professional opinion.

And you know I am going to give you some homework don't you :-)

It is time to re-evaluate your goals and your plans for the next phase of your life.

For those of you who are working on the 100 day goal achievement challenge will be pleased to know that today I achieved one of my goals a month early...yes I have dropped one dress size....and to "celebrate" I bought a new dress - and for those who know me well, will be shocked to hear it's blue with peacock feathers on it... I could only achieve that particular goal by the steady, day-to-day progress of exercising regularly and eating sensibly. It's also given me an extra incentive to keep going and to see if I can't drop at least another half size by the end of the year. And yes, realistically that is possible, if you want something badly enough and you are willing to work on your "goal" day after day after day you can achieve many things.

During these tougher economic times, you see people almost giving up - well nothing has worked for me so far, I might as well....

You might as well have another go, pick up the phone, write a sales letter, try something different, try something new. Change tactics, change plans, change anything, just don't stop now. The people who get there don't see a setback as a setback, merely a chance to re-evaluate their strategies.

So, get out the challenge, or download a copy - http://www.motivateme.info/100-days-goal-achievement/ you still have a month or so left to the end of the year - what can you do in a month. That is the beauty - once you decide to do something, anything is possible. For the new readers - you may not know, but the challenge book was completed in 3 days....from inception to completion - yes they were 3 very long days, but the challengers have achieved some amazing results. Re-evaluate your goals and the tasks you need to complete in order to make some inroads into completing them. Or you could get to this point next year and say - but where did the last 12 months go - what have I achieved during that time? Well if you write it down and follow your plan, you will know exactly what you have achieved won't you.

With many thoughts

As always Elle, you make me feel a) exhausted reading your posts, where do you find the time? and b) embarrased by my failure time and time again to finish anything. I do have a copy of the challenge, started out well, then missed a day (or two) before I knew it there were several weeks missing - so now I have it printed out and sitting next to my computer...maybe a computer app next time pls... so I see it and therefore work on it.
Thanks for keeping on at us, it does help - honest.
Cheers J
