Goal Setting: What is your return on investment

When you are planning your projects and goals do you stop and work out what the end result will be?

It is important that you do, because then and only then will you be able to determine whether the investment you are planning on making (in terms of time, effort, energy, and money) will be worth it.

In other words if you put all this effort + energy + time + money into project A, what will you receive as a return on that investment?

If you are planning on building a house, the end result is many things - not least of which - if you had planned to sell it straight away, what would the market pay for it? There are other returns of course - a nicer
home than the one you currently live in, a better neighbourhood for your kids to grow up in, satisfaction that you have achieved one of the biggest goals you can possibly have - building a house. And if you plan
on laying the bricks, piping the water and wiring the place as well - then you can really say you built a house - but you get my meaning, because managing the building process can be just as stressful as making
sure you have enough bricks and mortar and you're building the house so that it conforms to all the necessary standards.

Take a proper look at your goal list

What items are on it?
Why are they on your list? How do you feel about them? Do they excite you? Do they scare you just a little? What will your life be like once you have achieved them?

That final question is one of the keys to any goal - and whether or not you achieve them.

And it is perhaps the hardest one of all - whilst it is based in visualisation - what will your life be like when...? It is based in action. How do you know what your life will be like when you've achieved "it". Truth is - having a major goal and taking the steps to achieve it, will change your life in ways you had perhaps not dreamt about or even considered - but each time you take an action step towards your goal you are ensuring a good return on investment every time.
