Coaches: Following in the footsteps of giants

Do you have a coach or mentor? If the answer is no - are you where you thought you would be at this point in your life?

Consider this - all the best people have a mentor and some have a coach as well, and it doesn't have to stop when you reach a certain age either.

I am constantly learning, constantly seeking ways I can make myself be better. One of the best things I did in recent times was to re-join the gym. This one is a little different from the offers because it offers free personal training (in circuit class style) to every member, every single day of the week. We do about 25 different exercises in each 30 minute class. As I said to the trainer Matt this morning - the main thing I like about the class is this - it is never the same, there is always something new to challenge your mind and your body. Coaches do that. They challenge you to be better, go harder, go stronger for longer. You can't bail half way through unless you have a damn good reason. Because, pride doesn't let you give up.

But it's not just in sports and health and fitness where we can benefit from having a coach and mentor - but every aspect of our lives.

Business leaders the world over form mastermind groups. They may be at the top of their game, but they want to stay there and so they challenge themselves and each other. One of the most influential business philosophers and speakers in America is Mr Jim Rohn - he has not been well, but yesterday I watched as the people he has mentored and coached, formed alliances and mastermind groups with, stood up and said - thank you, you made such a difference in my life. Without you I would not be where I am today. His legacy is the next generation. If you haven't seen it - you can watch it - here - http://www.jimrohn.com/tribute.asp

Remember, just as you are seeking new ways and new tools, so the people who look to you are doing the same thing to you. Be prepared to become the teacher, and you will learn new things about yourself and what you think you know. It's a fascinating and eye opening experience.

Find the coaches, find the mentors and let the people who need you and your skills - find you, willing and able to help them too.

* Today's thoughts to ponder:
---------------------------
Don't muddle through on your own - there will be someone, somewhere who has been in the same situation as you - so don't be afraid to ask for help.

Why re-invent the wheel - it's perfect as it is - observe and learn from the masters, apply their knowledge to your life and your situation and go beyond your wildest dreams and imagination.
