Drawing a line in the sand

At some point in our lives we decide enough really is enough:

* When your clothes don't fit you too well any more you decide to lose weight.
* When you can't walk up the stairs without getting out of breath you decide to do something about your lack of health and fitness.
* When you've lost your licence because you drank one too many beers and decided to drive home afterwards that made you question how much alcohol is going into your body.
* Or the last round of tests from your doctor didn't go as well as they should have and it's time to lose weight or die of a health related disease.
* When you go to the bank and there is nothing there you decide you really ought to look at what you spend your money on, find a second job or a better job
* Or it may be a message from me - that made you re-think what you were doing and you decided to make some changes. We all draw lines in the sand at some point.

One of my long time readers shared something with me on the weekend. I asked if I could tell you what he told me. Thankfully he said yes.

Dear Elle,

One of your recent posts about looking after your body and getting it to run on the best fuels really struck a cord with me. I am badly overweight which is causing mje a lot of back pain. Every time I get back pain its off to the Osteo and £40 later have it massaged. Its costing me over £120/month.

So I took your advice and started a diet which coincided with my starting a new job. I have given up bread, butter and cheese and now instead take a crispbread with a half fat filling to work. I am eating more vegetables now too. Instead of chocolate bars I have 2 banana's and some apples. I am also parking my car as far as away from the office as I can and I ruin up those stairs. I feel dead but its happpening. OK I have relaxed the chocolate rule just once when I was stressed but you know what I have thrown out all of the sweets that I had in my car as well.

I have been on this diet now for 4 weeks and have lost 7 pounds. That is not a lot in terms but you know what? That suit which fitted me too well now hangs on my body nearly perfectly. I have another seven pounds to lose.

Not only am I feeling better, my back is feeling less sore too. Plus of course if I am not stuffing sweets into my face then my teeth won't need so much attention so that is another saving! So far my diet has saved me around £150!

Thanks for your encouragement. My new job is going quite well too!

Best wishes,

Have you drawn a line in the sand over something recently?

With many thoughts
Elle

Elle,
This is a message I think we all need to face in this economy. Think about it. Our good health becomes even more valuable! We are able to go to work everyday and not take off or limit what we can do because of health related issues. Thanks for the reminder!
