Emulation is the key to success

Who do you admire? Professionally speaking that is?

When we look at other people, especially those we like and look to, we are not just looking at "them" but their qualities, and their characters. Basically what makes them tick, what they do and how they do it. We can, if we want, emulate their actions (even if we don't know their thought processes) and achieve similar kinds of success. As you know, the best and shortest way to achieving many great things is to be "coached" by someone who has been there and done that and can show you how to do it too.

But when we talk about mentors and coaches, most people assume we are talking about people we can meet and interact with. But in reality, we can be mentored by many different people, most of whom we will never meet in person. Think about the books you have read or programs you have taken part in. Did you meet any of the authors in person? In most cases I would say the answer would be no. But you read their words and you may have taken some of their advice and wisdom and used it to facilitate your own growth and development.

These people are what we call "spiritual mentors". We may never meet them, but we can read their work, or we can observe their actions, and we can apply their philosophy to where we are.

"How would so and so handle this issue?"
"How would so and so answer this question?"
"What would so and so do if they were faced with this problem?"

The beauty of spiritual mentors is of course you can have as many different ones as you need. For example:

Tiger Woods for his dedication to his game. Would he miss a training session because it was wet outside? Would he stop practising because he thought he was good enough? Would he quit at the 16th hole because he thought he had the game in the bag?

Gary Lineker (ex Leicester City and England Football player) was never booked in a professional game (or any other for that matter that I know of). In other words - he played fair.

Or how about Socrates for his wisdom and ability to question - everything?

And I'm sure you can think of many other people who have qualities and characteristics you admire.

So this is where you take over as today's daily dose requires a little bit of thinking on your part I'm afraid.

Take a little bit of time and think about these things:

Who do you admire?
What characteristics do they possess?
Can you emulate them?
What kind of person would you be if you took on these new characteristics?
Is that a good thing?

What would you be able to do if you were not afraid of trying and maybe failing?

Once you have thought about those things. The next part of today's homework is simple:

If you had these new skills, abilities and characteristics how easy would it be to complete your goals, dreams and ambitions?

Excellent article, thank you. I think that as individuals we can be benefited immensely buy listening, watching or reading the work of others and using it as an example of best practice.
Your own example of limiting procrastination is a wonderful example of a spiritual mentorship.
