Leave the past where it belongs

Do you go back over and over things you did wrong, churning them over in your mind?

How on earth can you hope to move forwards if you cannot leave the past where it belongs.

You cannot change a single word you have said.
You cannot change a single action

But you can accept that perhaps you can do better tomorrow if you are willing to acknowledge the mistakes, the errors, the good, the bad and the indifferent.

If I ask you to name all the bad things that have happened to you in recent times I'm sure you could write several books. What I would prefer you to do is to focus on those things you have done well. The good things. Yes I did say the good. Acknowledge the mistakes by all means, after all it is only by doing this that we learn. But we also need to dwell on the good, because it is the good that will take us to many great places. And we can learn as many valuable lessons from all the good that we have done as well as the bad that left us writhing in pain and discomfort. And we'll enjoy the process far more and that's got to be a good thing.

So today I would ask you to spend a few minutes and write down all the good things that have happened to you today. The smell of the coffee, the rain that watered the plants, a great book you've read, a compliment you received, a bargain at the stores, a letter of congratulation from a co-worker or boss, the work you managed to do, the ..... why don't you fill in the rest of the blanks....

And keep this for when you are feeling a little low a chance to re-read the good when the bad threatens to overwhelm us
