Gambling your future away

When you think about your future and the plans you have for the life you want to live, do you put your success down to the roll of the cards or the correct numbers coming up on the lottery? You wouldn't be the first if you did. A lot of people have this kind of mentality, the kind that says "when I win the lottery I'm gonna...."

Well to be honest you have better odds of being hit by lightening on the way to buying your ticket than actually hitting the jackpot. The lottery (and gambling industry in general) rely on people who are waiting for their big break, and these people spend a lot of money waiting for it to happen.

Now, there will be people who will argue black is blue they don't spend ALL that much money on a lottery ticket. No? Then it's time for you to go back to school and do some math. How many tickets have you bought so far? How much did they cost you? Do an average over a year and multiply. Are you surprised at how much money you can spend if you buy a single ticket each week for 20 or 30 years? You shouldn't be. And people do. Do you know how much you have won over the same period? If you're "lucky" you may have come out on top. But the reality is, the only people who make money regularly on the lottery (and every other kind of "Gambling" enterprise) - are the people who run it. Which shouldn't come as a surprise to you - not really.

Now of course it is up to you what you spend your money on and I'm not going to advise you whether to buy a lottery ticket or not. But what I am saying is this. If you are gambling away your chance of success and sitting with fingers crossed waiting for the right numbers to come up, then you will never be successful. Successful people have an idea (and usually more than one) and they put that idea into plans and into action and they keep working on them. Yes there will be times when it seems like people become overnight successes, but that's not actually the case. They have taken the time to determine what they want and how they are going to get it, and in most cases they are not waiting on the roll of the dice to make things happen. But to the people who think these people are "lucky" don't understand the hard work and the ability to keep going when everyone else around them is gambling their futures away.

If you are in the habit of saying - when so and so happens I'm going to... then you too are waiting for your numbers to come up.

Get out of the habit of:

* When the kids leave home I'm going to ....
* When we've gotten rid of the bad food I'm going to eat healthy stuff
* When something out of my control happens I'm going to ....

We are the masters (and mistresses) of our own destiny, our future lies in our own hands. If you want success, then NOW is the time to take action, only then will you be able to load the dice in your favor.

How do you load the dice in your favour?
