Diets just make you feel hungry

I like to return to the classic topics relating to motivation every now and then, so this week we will go back over some of the basics. I like to do this for a couple of reasons

1. Newer readers won't have had the chance to go through the several hundred back issues of the daily dose where gems such as these lie hidden and
2. We all need a reminder every now and then about the fundamentals of motivation and diet, exercise and health, ways to overcome the procrastination habit and of course how on earth can we motivate others - especially children to do their homework, clean their rooms and brush their teeth, employees to pick up the phone and make those calls and our spouses to help around the house a little more - believe me it's probably easier to push water uphill.

So today's reminder session is a simple one:

Don't "go on a diet" change your eating habits.

There are couple of reasons for this. Going on a diet, implies a beginning and an end, except most people "fail" because they can't see where the end is. Answer this - if you are overweight - how long did it take you to get to the place you are now? A month, two months, 2 years, 10 years? Most people do not become overweight over night, it is a long road of eating too much and not doing enough exercise to burn off the excess calories to get to where you are now, so why do people (myself included) expect to lose excess weight in a few weeks, when it has taken months if not years to reach the size and shape that you are now. The answer is of course, you can't, so don't stress about it. The first thing to remember is that if you remember the energy equation you can make it work in your favour. Expend more energy than you take in (exercise more, eat less) and you will lose weight.

Besides going on a diet, just makes you feel hungry.
