Are you too old to nap? And a challenge update

Why did we stop having afternoon naps? At what point did we decide that we were grown up enough that we didn't need to have one? Well there are countries around the world where having a siesta is still considered appropriate whatever your age. Offices shut for a couple of hours, people close their blinds and they sleep. If you are like me, you probably can't try this one at work, but if you do happen to live in a society where a siesta is the norm, then take one, because there are many studies that show we can perform better if we have a snooze.

Speaking from personal experience (and what a stupid statement to make - of course i'm speaking from personal experience - sorry *slaps forehead*) I know that if I am working at full capacity, by the end of a normal day I am mentally exhausted. Bear in mind that most of my work is mental rather than physical, but I will give you an example. I recently spent two days on site building a new client intranet and by the end of day 2 I was a mess. Concentrated work like that is exhausting, and if you don't give yourself a break you can and do make mistakes.

For the rest of us, having a nap in the afternoon when the sun is riding at its peak is something we can aspire too. Whenever I can - be it on the weekend, or if I have taken a day or two off work, I go to bed for half an hour or so in an afternoon, depending on what my body needs. Take off your shoes, put on some relaxing music and allow yourself to drift into dream time. You will be amazed at how refreshed you feel after it, and able to get a whole lot more done afterwards too.

Here in Australia they call them "nanna naps" but believe me, you don't have to wait until retirement to enjoy this one.

With many thoughts

Challenge update:
---------------------------
The challenge questions for the 30th September 2009.

If you could do anything today – what would it be? Find a way to make it happen.

Take one day at a time – what are you going to do today:

The Challenge Update:

For the astute readers - you will have noticed an error in the file....consequently you will have just 99 days to complete the challenge - which just goes to prove to me several things

1. No matter how many times you proof read something, if you are in a hurry you will make the odd mistake
2. It doesn't matter if you do make the odd mistake, the good thing is you made a decision and you are doing something. And like all plans and goals you will need to make adjustments along the way.
3. Give yourself a bit more time and get someone else to proof read your work :-)

The forums:

I've posted another couple of questions on to the forum if you'd like to add a question or  comment. I am checking in every day and will respond to every one posted, should you have any questions or queries - or just need an ear.
